Dead Poets' Club

by Peter Löcke //

Boris Pistorius gave a Christmas speech. Cristian Lindner and other Berlin political figures also tried their hand at the discipline of the pathetic. The speeches by the German Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier and the German Minister for Economic Affairs Robert Habeck (see sources) were particularly well received by the media. After watching the two speeches, I intuitively asked myself a very childish question. What exactly are they doing?
"First principles Clarice. Simplification! Read Marcus Aurelius. With every single thing the question is, what is it in itself? What is its nature? What does he do, this man you are looking for?"
The lines were spoken by Anthony Hopkins in his role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs". According to Dr. Lecter, it is the nature of the murderer to desire, the bestial slaughter of the victims is just an unattractive side note. What is the essence, what is the nature of Frank Walter Steinmeier and Robert Habeck? Don't get me wrong. Of course I don't want to accuse these two gentlemen of having murderous intentions. What are these men doing whose speeches I am watching?

They are selling. They are selling themselves and the public for fools. As I don't like being taken for a fool, I've put the two Christmas speeches into a little poem.

In the good Germany of all times

From heraldic animal and Nordmannmann
speaks framed Frank Walter
as Presidential Santa Claus
as Germany's supreme administrator.

He had been traveling a lot
and knows the worries of the Germans.
I must have missed something
such journeys remained hidden from me.

Germany is a good country.
Full of confidence, without any panic.
The ship is already crashing into the iceberg wall
but music plays on the Titanic.

The grade two is surprising.
Only good in German latitudes?
Didn't Spalter Frank speak yesterday
of the best Germany ever?

Rock star Robby is a completely different story
with a cool black and chic outfit.

That's how he calls me from a lobby
with a kissable mouth and a dachshund look.

The suffering, you can see it.
The war, the Russian, Putin, the lousy one.
Then a tearful plea
because on top of that there is a climate crisis.

So Robert is still frightening and still frightening.
Fear is explained to me with chalk.
In the end, Robert does give a warning
from the Nazi who feeds the fears.

But the rock star has a sense of humor.
In the world of the fairy tale uncle
the citizen does not wear the mourning flag.
It is the state with its money.

Then take my money and rob my mind.
But there is one thing you will never get.
Because you are driving Germany to the wall,
I keep the poetry.

At the turn of the year
a cake filled with rum.
Will the world become dense
that's how I become a poet ... in the club of clear words.

  1. Dear Mr. Löcke, poems are not really my thing, but this would probably also make a veritable carnival speech. Fool's march !!!

  2. "What is the essence, what is the nature of Frank Walter Steinmeier and Robert Habeck?" - That is the question here!
It also meets all the other people near and far around me in the best possible Germany of all time.
I've been asking myself this question since I stood stunned in front of empty supermarket shelves late at night on March 14, 2020.
What has gotten into people who hoard noodles, wear masks and allow themselves to be experimentally "pricked"?
And what has gotten into the people who are orchestrating all this from above? Good faith or evil?
I should watch Clarice & Hannibal again to at least be well entertained - maybe even wiser.

Dear Peter Löcke, thank you for all the wonderful columns and here's to the next one!

Welcome to this platform for the cultivated exchange of arguments.

We have forgotten how to endure contradiction. It is okay to disagree here. I would ask you to remain respectful and polite. Insults and hate comments will be removed in future, as will calls to vote for political parties. I reserve the right to delete insulting or derogatory comments. This public forum and its inherent opportunity to exchange arguments and opinions is an attempt to uphold freedom of expression - including freedom of dissent. I would like to see the old-fashioned virtue of respect cultivated here.

"Controversy is not an annoying evil, but a necessary prerequisite for the success of democracy." Federal President Dr. h.c. Joachim Gauck (ret.), only 5 years ago in his speech on the Day of the Basic Law.
