November rain

by Peter Löcke //

I'm off then. Not immediately, but only after writing this text. My destination will not be the Way of St. James, but simply the nearest woodland. Beautiful nature and the musty smell of a cold, wet autumn await me there. Since, unlike Hape Kerkeling, I resolutely refuse to turn my inner contemplation outwards, I won't be serving up a soul striptease with birdsong in the November rain. Instead, this column is about the unreal rain of news pelting down on Germany in November 2023. Mordor instead of the Shire. Perhaps you would still like to join me. A sorrow shared is a sorrow halved!

There is some birdsong after all. Orwell meets ornithology. Colonialism and racism have arrived in the linguistic world of birds. Dozens of bird species are to be renamed. I read about this in Stern. I don't know if it's true or not. I assume that the most dangerous songbird is still the journalistic dirty finch. This species can be observed in the domestic press, but not only there. The ARD press club provided the proof.

By chance, the citizen Harald Lesch called there. Some Germans know him as a universal scientist and green climate activist of the third-last generation. He has been known primarily from television since 1994. Now, finally, Lesch is also known as a private person. Surprisingly, his private opinion is no different from his opinion as a public figure. ARD defended the random caller.

ZDF, on the other hand, defended Moritz Neumeier's derogatory performance. The comedian in question called for Germans over seventy to simply be killed instead of deporting illegal migrants. As the average TV viewer received the joke with incomprehension, ZDF felt compelled to issue a statement. In this statement, the punch line of the joke and the rhetorical stylistic device of exaggeration were explained to the ignorant fee payer. My reaction to this is also an exaggeration. It is always embarrassing for both sender and receiver to explain the punch line of a joke. On the other hand, Neumeier has earned his own ZDF format with this dehumanization after Blinddarm-Bosetti & Ratten-Böhmermann.

One can only take the German downfall with gallows humor and thus the smooth transition to the German national soccer team, to Julian Nagelsmann's Genders Eleven. His rainbow squad lost both the away game in Turkish-speaking Berlin and the home game in German-speaking Vienna. Germany in a state of shock, but not because of the defeats. DFB boss Völler gave an interview to the right-wing populist portal Nius. What goes too far, goes too far. That was dishonorable, Rudi.

After all, Germany should become fit for war again. That is what Boris Pistorius demanded. After consulting with Thunder Strack Zimmermann, I call for the Ministry of Defense to be renamed the Ministry of War, as in the bad old days. That would be the next step on the upward escalation scale. As it says so beautifully in Hermann Hesse's step-by-step poem? There is a shudder in every beginning. But I may be remembering the words wrong.

For the grand finale of the news rain, there is of course "the" thunderstorm topic of November. You will have read about it. The traffic lights are having trouble sticking to the budget. That can't stop Christian Lindner from replacing the first breach of the constitution with an alleged second breach of the constitution. The debt brake enshrined in the Basic Law is now to be suspended after all. This is done by pressing the key combination "ctrl + z". This is due to an emergency situation for the year 2023, which will soon be over. I'm out from here. I'm gone from here. From here on, I'm drawn into the analog forest.

My smartphone stays at home and will never know how many steps I will take to escape this madness. And I will never know what Olaf Scholz meant by double whammy. Perhaps the chancellor meant the recently promised 1.3 billion euros for Ukraine plus the 4 billion euros for green energy in Africa that are now flowing from Germany's empty coffers.

When the world no longer feels anything, my desire to feel myself increases. Then it drives me into the rainy forest. In rare moments, a soaking wet walker comes towards me and we nod at each other, knowing and smiling. Then I tell myself it's a like-minded person. Then I tell myself it was a reader from the Club of Clear Words. I would like to turn that much inside out. Thank you for being here in these rainy times.

  1. How true are such flashes in the column, but my laughs are not cheerful, rather sarcastic, and how brazen these show awards in the political theater. It's just stupid that we pay for them with our taxes without being allowed to choose the play.
Aber meine innere Frage seit Jahren ist doch, ob ich abwarten soll bis die Chose von selbst zusammen bricht oder mich in den “ Widerstand “ begeben soll. Dabei bin ich doch gar kein „Kämpfertyp“.
I'm not happy with either option.

  3. Hello Mr. Löcke, I have already sensed that we both like the November forest when it rains. It's wonderful when the moisture rises out of the valleys during the breaks in the rain and forms clouds. The sound of the rain in the remaining leaves and the whisper of the wind through the bare branches - no need for AirPods here, as some contemporaries walk through the forest. Nature makes music, inimitably. The soft chirping of the remaining birds is barely audible.
My forest is 100m from my front door, yours too?

  4. Dear Mr. Löcke,
I have to admit that I had to laugh heartily at two or three points in your article. For a brief moment, your contribution brightened my increasingly darkening soul. Thank you very much for that. I can only agree with your message. I have been aware for a long time that even in the morally impeccable West it is always about money and the preservation and establishment of power-securing structures, but at no time has it been as obvious as it is now. Somewhere it was written that democracy is a monarchy for stupid people. Similar to the remark in the comment above. The current set-up of our society in all its facets is the result of decades or more of planned and implemented re-education. Added to this are the excesses of an affluent society. The only thing that counts is prosperity in the form of cars, smart devices and other luxury goods, dream trips, Netflix, etc. The mainstream only reports in a one-sided and manipulative way. Wars sparked by the West are once again raging in the East. Thousands and thousands of people are dying, who cares? It has to be. The right lessons are deliberately not being learned from history and certainly not communicated, the manipulation of the masses is working again every day. Tomorrow I will go for a walk in the woods to seek my salvation, as I have been doing a lot lately. Anyone who describes themselves as a happy person in this day and age seems to me to be quite an egoist. A few moments of happiness at most, ok. Family, your own children, friends, nature... but all in all, that's not enough for a happy life, especially when you consider what is being placed on the shoulders of children. You could be content, but happy... no. I wish you all the best, please carry on. With best regards

  5. The Federal Cross of Merit for those who have been named is like the Nobel Peace Prize for Obama - a particularly bad idea.

  6. I can only think of one thing to say about this comment: I am the wet walker who meets you with a nod of understanding.
And..... In these crazy times with so many crazy players, there's nothing more to say or do. Withdraw, endure the madness as a silent spectator, let things take their course, don't intervene any further. What is happening here must thoroughly expose itself without any attempts by good people to correct it and then disappear into oblivion. The wreckage left behind will once again be cleared up by those who know what to do. Until the next time.

  7. Dear Peter Löcke, as always, your comments are so refreshingly realistic that the Pulitzer Prize really only belongs to one person, namely you. You've hit the nail on the head, this country has been ruined in recent years and the people are standing on the side of the road applauding. It's kind of happened before. Of course, anyone who questions anything is an enemy of a democracy that has long ceased to exist.
George Bernhard Shaw hat einmal geschrieben:“ Demokratie ist eine Regierungsform, welche die Anordnungen einiger Korrupter durch die Beschlüsse vieler Inkompetenter ersetzt. “ Wie Recht er hatte.

Welcome to this platform for the cultivated exchange of arguments.

We have forgotten how to endure contradiction. It is okay to disagree here. I would ask you to remain respectful and polite. Insults and hate comments will be removed in future, as will calls to vote for political parties. I reserve the right to delete insulting or derogatory comments. This public forum and its inherent opportunity to exchange arguments and opinions is an attempt to uphold freedom of expression - including freedom of dissent. I would like to see the old-fashioned virtue of respect cultivated here.

"Controversy is not an annoying evil, but a necessary prerequisite for the success of democracy." Federal President Dr. h.c. Joachim Gauck (ret.), only 5 years ago in his speech on the Day of the Basic Law.
