Sex, drugs & rock'n'roll! When was the last time you celebrated an orgy in your life? When was the last time you really let yourself go as if there was no tomorrow? It was a long time ago for me. That's due to my age. It's also due to my fear, because today there are smartphones that document any embarrassments on film for the environment and posterity. Interestingly, the term orgy in its original sense has little to do with debauchery. It refers to secret rituals [1], often a strictly defined sequence of actions to honor a deity.

Seen in this light, the Christian liturgy is also an orgy that is celebrated [2]. However, gorging, violent or even sexual orgies rarely occur at Catholic high mass on Sunday mornings. Today, such excesses that go beyond the norm are associated with orgies. Who or what else comes to mind? Angela Merkel, of course.

In April 2020, the mother of the nation forbade any kind of opening discussion orgy [3]. Who doesn't remember that? Four weeks earlier, the Chancellor announced the new normality on TV on the evening of March 18, 2020. Merkel had to do this because there was an epidemic situation of national importance in Germany. Ergo, an emergency law called the Population Protection Act was needed to override the Basic Law of 1949, which in turn was installed as a bulwark to ensure that an emergency law would never be proclaimed again. The Enabling Act of 1933 was officially called the "Act to Remove the Distress of the People and the Reich" [4]. The official intention at the time was to help the people out of their distress. From the point of view of the time, the law was a protective measure with no alternative and the people who complied with it acted in solidarity and well. I apologize for the historical digression. Back to the orgiastic excesses of Angela Merkel's orgy of debate, which had to be stopped.

When, after a month of observation, some people without solidarity still believed that fundamental rights are fundamental rights and not privileges granted by the state, people wanted to discuss this. Ergo, the Chancellor meant, if I understood her correctly: 

Resist the democratic beginnings! Stop the orgy of opening discussions! We listen to science in the person of Christian Drosten. 

Finally, at noon on March 18, 2020, coincidentally a few hours before Merkel's historic TV appearance, he said the following on the NDR podcast [5]:

"I think that's my personal opinion, many people, including scientists, will see it differently from me, but I really have to say that I've been looking into these things very intensively over the last few days, because I've been asked by politicians to give answers that I can't give myself and I've been looking at figures back and forth and crunching numbers: And for me, my personal conclusion is really that if we want to manage the whole thing as a society, in a way that we really don't want to accept an increased death rate in the older population, then we probably have to suspend regulatory things as far as vaccines are concerned. And see where we can conjure up a vaccine (...)."

Drosten believed, thought and still believes today that he probably has a personal opinion and can provide answers to questions to which he himself has no answer. The podcast on the day of Merkel's TV speech is an orgy of contradictory nonsense and vague phrases, and not just at this point. For example, Christian Drosten first expressed general skepticism about modeling because it has a bad image and has often been completely wrong in the past, only to call for "shortcuts in vaccine approval" in the next moment due to a brand new model from England that was so new that Drosten himself could only cross-read it shortly before the broadcast. To this day, the supposed top virologist is still conducting similar semantic madness orgies, which - for whatever reason - lead to jubilant orgies in politics and the media. Celebratory orgies? These are also being discussed at the moment, namely in sport, or more precisely when celebrating a goal during the European Football Championship. Celebratory orgies have become a political issue in soccer. 

Actually, they have been for some time. For some time now, celebrating a goal on the fence or taking off a jersey has automatically led to a yellow card. If there is a political message under the removed jersey, the player is punished with a ban, depending on the political message proclaimed and the associated wave of outrage. Two players are currently causing a lot of outrage. Firstly, Turkish international Merih Demiral for what is considered an extreme right-wing wolf salute while celebrating his two goals against Austria. On the other, England's Jude Bellingham after his toxically masculine goal celebration when he - well - gesturally indicated the size of his genitals in a vulgar manner. I'm staying out of these moral discussions. The point is that soccer is not really about spontaneous celebrations, but usually about rehearsed choreography. They are not quite so secret rituals, the original meaning of the word orgy. Many stars, such as Christiano Ronaldo, are known for their own sequence of actions when celebrating a goal. The individual jubilant orgy as part of the corporate design of the kicking "Ich-AG-Welt" stars. The phenomenon also applies to the selfie orgies of celebrities in the stands, who broadcast their visually captured emotional worlds on social media. After all, feelings are no longer felt and lived spontaneously. They are staged, photographed and then disseminated. I confess that this is not my world. It's time for me to have an orgy again. It's been a long time. Sunday is high mass in the church again. I've heard that seat reservations and advance ticket bookings are unnecessary in view of the number of people leaving the church. Buying a season ticket is unnecessary.
