The future has a long past. If you don't know the past, you can't shape the present or the future.
by Wolfgang Effenberger and Paul Robert Vogt//
On September 19, 2023, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke at the 78th General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly and began by commemorating a special anniversary: 50 years ago, in September 1973, the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR joined the United Nations. According to Scholz, for Germany, as the "perpetrator of terrible wars and atrocious crimes", this step was associated with the opportunity to return to the family of peace-loving nations.
Was Germany also the author of the First World War?
This theory of Germany's "grip on world power", put forward by former Nazi historian Fritz Fischer in the early 1960s, has long since ceased to be tenable. Fischer had been placed on the list of people to be automatically arrested by the Allies as a "dangerous National Socialist". Strangely enough, when he was released in 1947, he was given back his former chair in Hamburg. This is perplexing, as ordinary village school teachers were no longer allowed to teach simply because of their NSDAP membership.
On June 28, 1919, a "peace treaty" was imposed on Germany in Versailles, in which its sole responsibility for the First World War was enshrined. On October 3, 1918, the German government led by Max von Baden had asked US President Woodrow Wilson for an armistice based on his 14-point peace plan. This provided for a peace agreement acceptable to all parties (evacuation of occupied territories and a general reorganization of Europe according to the principle of the right of peoples to self-determination). However, the peace negotiations - from which Germany had been excluded in 1919 - no longer cared about the 14-point plan at all.
The parallels with Minsk II are abundantly clear.
To this day, however, the background to the assassination of the Austrian heir to the throne Franz-Ferdinand in Sarajevo (June 28, 1914), which initially led to the strike against Serbia (July 5, 1914, "Mission Hoyos") and subsequently to the official declaration of war, has not been clarified in the West. We recommend everyone to read Wikipedia's "Mission Hoyos" can be read. It was warmongering, entanglements, individual interests. Greed for money, overconfidence, claims to world power and a loss of reality all led to the First World War.
Here too, the parallels with the current situation are obvious.
The assassins of Sarajevo came from the Serbian capital Belgrade. After Serbia rejected the Austrian ultimatum, which was deliberately issued in an extreme manner in order to remain without a chance, war was declared on Serbia 30 days after the assassination on July 28, 1914. The aim was to destroy Serbia.
For comparison: only 27 days after the attack on September 11, 2001, the USA began its undeclared war against Afghanistan, a country that was demonstrably not involved in the terrorist attack.
Germany declared war on Russia on 1 August 1914 after Russia had mobilized its army. The German Emperor Wilhelm II had previously desperately asked Tsar Nicholas II to withdraw the Russian mobilization. On August 1, 1914, Russia had already deployed the Rennenkampff Army on the eastern border of East Prussia and the Samsonov Army on the southern flank of East Prussia. On August 1, 1914, both armies began their reconnaissance activities in East Prussia. In Great Britain, preparations for war against Germany had been underway since the founding of the Committee of Imperial Defense (CID; in German: "Committee for Imperial Defense") in 1904. In this committee, the British formation of an expeditionary force of 180,000 men for Belgium was prepared in consultation with France and the comprehensive blockade of Germany was meticulously worked out in the naval department. One of the aims was to destroy Germany's steadily growing merchant fleet - a thorn in the side of Britain as a naval power. The German government was simply too "stupid" and was the first to start shooting, following the Schliefen Plan, which had already failed from the outset.
None of these facts are mentioned in history books or in the media today. And so there is currently no mention in the media of the facts that will bring us into a WWIII.
In his speech on September 19, 2023, Scholz warned against simple promises of peace and emphasized: "Peace without freedom is oppression. Peace without justice is a dictate." However, as the philosopher Karl Jaspers rightly stated, peace in freedom can only be achieved on the foundation of truth.
On June 28, 1919, the anniversary of the Sarajevo assassination, Germany was presented with the finished peace treaty in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. Diplomatic skill and analytical thinking had not been the inspiration here, but rather a relentless desire for revenge. This treaty was also an unreserved breach of the armistice agreement. The leader of the German delegation at Versailles, Foreign Minister Count Brockdorff-Rantzau, refused to sign and resigned. And even US President Woodrow Wilson, now ill and severely marked by the Spanish flu ("The Power of Viruses"), was only a tragic figure. Er gestand seinem Kriegsminister Newton Baker, dass er als Deutscher diesen Vertrag nicht unterschrieben hätte: „If I were a German, I think, I should never sign it.“ Während der ehemalige britische Premierminister David Lloyd George („Europe slithered over the brink into the boiling cauldron of war“) kompromissbereit war, hat sich der französische Ministerpräsident Georges Clemenceau durchgesetzt: er wollte Deutschland permanent geschwächt, militärisch und ökonomisch.
Winston Churchill later stated at the outbreak of the Second World War: "This war would never have broken out if we had not driven the Habsburgs out of Austria-Hungary and the Hohenzollerns out of Germany under pressure from the Americans and new-fangled thinking. By creating a vacuum in these countries, we gave the monster Hitler the opportunity to crawl from the depths of the gutter to the empty throne."
Probably alluding to the powerful expansion of the BRICS states to BRICS+, which together with the global South are striving for a multipolar peace order and do not support the sanctions against Russia, Scholz claimed: "...that we, the vast majority of states [which is not true with regard to the war in Ukraine and which is also not the majority of the world's population!!!], agree on many things."
These include the "three golden universal rules":
- the renunciation of violence as a means of politics;
- respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of all countries;
- and that we also grant these rights to others.
In this respect, we really must agree with Olaf Scholz: the global challenges of our time can only be solved on the basis of these principles.
Unfortunately, the US has repeatedly violated all three points since the 1999 war against the rest of Yugoslavia (without a UN mandate), which violated international law: Color revolutions that toppled several governments, more wars without a UN mandate (Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya), "regime change" and so on.
However, the fact that this call for the three "golden universal rules" comes from a politician who has remained silent on all US violations of these essential norms and continues to do so today will, at best, be met with a shake of the head by the majority of the world's population. Germany will probably suffer a major loss of credibility. However, this has not stopped Scholz from calling on the UN General Assembly to decide on a reform of the Security Council. The current composition with the five permanent members USA, Russia, China, France and Great Britain is outdated.
As early as 2004, the G4 states (Brazil, Germany, India and Japan) sought to reform the Security Council with a view to expansion against the backdrop of the geopolitical interests of the USA. On September 21, 2011, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff called for more democracy and equality in the world and campaigned for a concrete reform of the Security Council. "The demand is becoming more and more urgent. The world needs a Council that reflects contemporary reality."
Nothing has happened for 19 years. Now Scholz wants that until the reform Germany assumes responsibility as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and asked the Assembly to support the German candidacy for the years 2027/2028. However, the Polish representatives vehemently spoke out against this.
In New York, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, mainly sang the familiar war song. A week before the UN General Assembly, he had already let the editor-in-chief of "The Economist" know how the country was preparing for a long war. In order to "convince" the governments and continue to support Ukraine, it is necessary - according to Selenskyj - "to drive them forward via the media"; this has always worked well in terms of arms deliveries. Despite the lack of a military breakthrough, Zelensky demanded further support from the West. Otherwise, he threatened an authoritarian transformation of Ukraine and unrest by Ukrainian refugees. However, if the West were to reduce its aid to Ukraine, this would not only prolong the war, but also "create risks for the West in its own backyard20."
After all, no one would know how the millions of Ukrainian refugees in European countries would react if their country was abandoned. However, it would not be a "good thing" for Europe if it drove "these people into a corner".
"The barely concealed threat to turn millions of Ukrainian refugees against the EU governments - alongside the announcement to take the EU to a WTO arbitration court - comes at a time when Ukraine is officially seeking admission to the EU and demanding rapid progress in this regard20."
Olaf Scholz spoke in front of an empty hall at the UN. Likewise Selenskyj. But Ukrainian television "filled" the empty hall for Zelenskyi with footage from earlier, when it was still full - and did not notice that Zelenskyi himself was sitting in the audience at sec. 15. It then looked as if he was listening to his own speech. So much for the "honest" and objective reporting of our media: even the speeches from the UN General Assembly are obviously manipulated!
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisolsadati, popularly and internationally known as Ebrahim Raisi, referred to a newly emerging geopolitical order. The United States' attempts to impose its rules on the world had failed, he said. The West is staging coups and proxy wars. The emerging economies are in the process of establishing regional cooperation, with the regions interacting with the global community on the basis of justice. Foreign powers should not intervene in the region - from the Caucasus down to the Persian Gulf. They are not part of the solution, but the core of the problem itself.
Indeed, after more than 500 years of colonialism, the world seems to be undergoing an epochal change. The most recent expansion of the BRICS in Johannesburg in August 2023 - 6 new countries, including Iran, will join on January 1, 2024 and over 30 are queuing up - shows the speed at which the countries of the global South are coming together under the umbrella of a multipolar peace order. The danger of the world splitting into two hostile blocs - unipolar (USA/EU/NATO: the Colonialists) versus multipolar (global South: the Colonized) - not banned.
UN Security Council September 20, 2023
The last speaker at the UN Security Council meeting, which lasted around three hours, was German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Both President Zelensky and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov were no longer present in the forum at this point.
In his first speech in the UN Security Council, Scholz repeated the Western mantra of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and sharply attacked the Russian leadership: "Russian troops have murdered, raped and tortured." The reason? Shockingly simple, according to Scholz: "Russia's president wants to implement his imperialist plan to conquer his sovereign neighbor, Ukraine."
Scholz was not embarrassed to claim that Germany and France had made hundreds (!) of diplomatic attempts to resolve the crisis in the years leading up to February 24, 2022. The massive increase in the shelling of the cities of eastern Donbass by the Ukrainian military from February 17, 2022 - an open breach of the ceasefire - was followed by Russian recognition of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics and, as part of the military support for them, the order to attack on February 24, 2022. Kiev has been waging a civil war against its own population in the east of the country since May 2, 2014. By February 24, 2022, almost 15,000 people had been killed, which was not an issue for the Western media. The rampage of the Ukrainian nationalists in Volhynia and Galicia towards the end and after the end of WWII is well known and is now the cause of a dispute between the Polish and Ukrainian governments.
Chancellor Scholz is a living example - not the only one - of Europe's incompetent geopolitics. Russia posed no threat to Europe. The danger for Europe lies in the demography and the consecutive migration bomb of Africa. Europe should take care of Africa and not let the Americans drive it into a war against Russia (based on Kishore Mahbubani, Public Lecture, Golkar Institute, Indonesia, September 23)
By claiming that Germany and France have made 100 attempts at diplomatic conflict resolution, Chancellor Scholz has ruined any possibility of talks with the other warring party - regardless of whether it is with Putin or his successor.
"We all want the killing to stop" - this statement by Scholz must appear extremely questionable against the backdrop of the West's increasing arms deliveries to Ukraine. This will only escalate the war further.
In the end, there is a danger that the whole of Europe will be dragged into the inferno.
Foreign Minister Lavrov accused the West, above all the USA, of abusing the United Nations for its own ends. He accused the West of having a "superiority complex".
In fact, the USA in its National Security Strategy of October 27, 2022 as the primary objectives:
- Reducing the growing multidisciplinary threat from China;
- Deterring the challenge posed by Russia in Europe.
This was to be achieved via:
integrated deterrence;
- Campaign management;
- Building a lasting advantage.
Lavrov also complained about France and Germany, who had neglected the Minsk Agreement. The Russian Foreign Minister was still practising diplomatic restraint. During the general debate at the UN General Assembly on 23 September 2023, Lavrov emphasized that his country had no interest in a major war: "It is entirely up to us how history will develop. It is in our common interest to prevent a downward spiral into a full-scale war and the final collapse of the mechanisms of international cooperation".
The two world wars have brought the USA prosperity and a leading position in the world. Against this background, the statements made by 3-star General Keith Kellogg on February 28, 2023 at the hearing on the Ukraine war before the US Senate are frightening. The general raved to the senator:
"If you can defeat a strategic adversary and not use US troops in the process, you're at the height of professionalism, because if you let the Ukrainians win, a strategic adversary is off the table and we can focus on what we should be doing against our main adversary, and right now that's China ... and if we can fail in the process, we might have to fight another European war, that would be the third time".
Russia, which suffered around 27 million (according to the latest research results of de-classified documents between 40 million and 50 million) casualties in the Second World War - in comparison: USA 405,000 - should indeed have no interest in a major war. No bombs fell in the USA, while the regions up to the Leningrad (St. Petersburg) - Moscow - Stalingrad (Volgograd) line were largely devastated.
The shadows of the Second World War can still be felt in Russia. Every May 8/9, the regions of the former Soviet Union commemorate those who died in the "Great Patriotic War" (1941-1945). Many people from the former Soviet republics also flock to Berlin to the Soviet memorial - which also contains a mass grave with Soviet soldiers - in Treptower Park. At the end of the extensive grounds is a hill on which a monumental Soviet soldier stands. This soldier holds a child rescued from the fire in his left arm (allegedly a true story), while he smashes the swastika with the sabre in his right hand. The sides of the room are lined with steles depicting the suffering of this war in relief. The fallen Ukrainians, Belarusians, Russians, Balts and so on lie united in the mass grave of Treptow. The tragedy of the war in Ukraine can hardly be surpassed.
Ukrainians found themselves on both sides of the war in the First World War. The western part of Ukraine (Galicia) had fallen to the Austrian Empire during the gradual division of Polish-Lithuanian territory between 1772 and 1795, while the eastern part remained with Russia. During the Second World War, the national forces fought on the side of Hitler's Germany. In 1943, the 14th Waffen-Grenadier Division of the SS was formed from Ukrainian volunteers; it was initially given the nickname "Galician No. 1" and reached a strength of 22,000 men. At the end of the war, it bore the somewhat confusing designation "1st Ukrainian Division of the Ukrainian National Army".
When Stepan Bandera first became deputy national leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) in 1932, Yaroslav Stetzko was promoted to deputy political-ideological advisor. One week after the German invasion of the Soviet Union, Stetzko drafted Ukraine's declaration of independence and was proclaimed President of Ukraine in Lviv on June 30, 1941.
A wave of anti-Semitic pogroms began, in which thousands of Jews were massacred, and Stetzko assured Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Francisco Franco and Ante Pavelić in letters that his new state was part of Hitler's New Order in Europe.
Viktor Andriyovych Yushchenko, Ukrainian Prime Minister from December 1999 to May 2001 and known in the West as a democrat of the Orange Revolution from 2004, then declared the Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera, who was responsible for thousands of murders of Poles and Jews, a national hero as President of Ukraine (2005 to 2010). In 2010, Yushchenko had a plaque of honor erected in Munich: "Yaroslav and Yaroslava Stetzko lived and worked here for the freedom of Ukraine. We commemorate their outstanding achievements. President of Ukraine". Viktor Yanukovych revoked this medal from Bandera.
Given this history, it is hardly surprising that on September 22, 2023, there was a standing ovation in the Canadian Parliament for the 98-year-old Ukrainian immigrant Jaroslaw Hunka, who had fought as a member of the (Galician) Waffen SS against Russia in World War II.
In the early 1990s, Croatian Ustasha National Socialists who had returned from South America initiated the destruction of Yugoslavia, which was dominated by Serbs at the time, through terrorist actions. Since the 2004 Orange Revolution in Ukraine, Ukro-National Socialists returning from Canada have been actively pursuing the annexation of Ukraine, which is mainly Russian-speaking in the east, into NATO.
Back to the Ukraine war. Until now, it seemed that this proxy war would remain stuck in a military stalemate. During Zelensky's visit to Capitol Hill for the UN General Assembly, Biden's security advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters that the president had not yet made a decision on the deployment of the US-made short-range ballistic missile (ATACMS) to Kiev and that the missile had so far been withheld on the grounds that it would lead to a Russian escalation of the war. The successful attack by a presumably British cruise missile from the British Storm Shadow was announced on Friday, September 22, 2023, in Sevastopol the historic main building of the Russian Navy was badly hit.
This success seems to have persuaded the Biden administration to make a U-turn on the issue of deploying the ATACMS. Faced with the threat of defeat, US strategists seem to have thrown caution to the wind and risked the outbreak of a direct war between Russia and NATO. Germany, with its miserable government, initially decided to supply Taurus missiles and Russia declared that Germany would then be an active belligerent and the Taurus workshops in Germany would be destroyed. Now Scholz has stopped the delivery of these missiles.
The danger of a pan-European escalation increases further with the likelihood of the Western delivery of nuclear-capable F-35 bombers and long-range weapons. The impression is growing that leading forces in the West are interested in such an escalation, because as we know from the two world wars, there are always profiteers from such a catastrophe. Time is pressing. If the world does not find a new international security architecture soon, it could be too late, at least for Europe. The United Nations no longer seems to be in a position to implement the UN Charter, whose preamble explicitly states the goal of freeing the world from the scourge of war.
Well, you may or may not agree with the details mentioned. There are two sides to everything and interpretations differ. The international tensions do not only stem from one side, but also have other reasons. Read the article by Andrey Kortunov, Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council: "Moscow's Painful Adjustment to the Post-Soviet Space".
The cold-bloodedly executed abuse of the Ukrainian population for NATO's goals in the geostrategic battle with Russia and China can no longer be surpassed in terms of cynicism. And the Ukrainians will one day have to realize with bitterness that the Western values of the Slavic population has never seen them as equals and never will. Rather, they are following what the Englishman Thomas More, once Lord Chancellor of King Henry VIII, recommended over 500 years ago in his standard work "Utopia": "let lesser peoples fight for you"! And as far as we are concerned, we should realize that we are fast approaching an open WWIII. And one thing is certain: nothing will be left of Europe this time.
Where are the reminders? Who is calling stop? Where are our media? Where is the "peace nation" Switzerland, whose incompetent politicians have abandoned neutrality, trample law and order underfoot, ignore our constitution and supply weapons to a war zone with lazy tricks?
Is there still an independent media that articulates the threat of war?
The authors of this article have both reached a certain age. Whether a nuclear bomb falls on your head or not is secondary. BUT: do you all have no children, no grandchildren? Do you even know what a total, terrorist hell war will be and not a clean Gameboy game with sterile cracking of enemy tanks? If you know all this: take to the streets and demonstrate - not against something, but for peace. And the media: if you all know this too: change your reporting. Otherwise you are complicit in the war.
Daniel Ellsberg ("The Pentagon Papers"; "The Doomsday Machine") died recently at the age of 92. Before his death, he said to Edward Snowden: "I knew the full extent of the misery early on. I warned - not hard enough and clearly! And today I know what I was guilty of".

Mr. Effenberger has always been a role model for me when it comes to historical education. Listening to Mr. Pistorius' statements in the last few days, one cannot help but get the impression that warmongering has found its place in the Federal Government. However, even Mr. Effenberger, with all his historical knowledge, cannot know which forces have an interest in this. These analyses are important and necessary, but they must be shouted loud and clear in the face of the warmongers by a majority of Germans in the form of an extra-parliamentary opposition. Especially in the interest of our grandchildren.
Exceptionally good. I lived and worked in Kiev between 2003 and 2009. I know the mentality there, both in the east and west of Ukraine. Everything that we supply in the way of weapons and is not sold on verbally or to Scandinavian gangs or Hamas will one day be directed against us! Think about that!
The Russian strike forces would not need nuclear weapons to destroy military targets in Germany to a sufficient extent. That will be the issue if the worst comes to the worst. The bunker-busting missiles are supposed to be effective down to a depth of 150 meters. Hopefully the German government will still be safe. Perhaps they will know. I wish they did - there in Berlin.
The best thing I have ever read. It belongs on the school and university curriculum, and it should especially be used to train diplomats. And it should guide the actions of the BR. Thank you very much.
Thank you for the interesting article.
Perhaps this reading will also help to understand the madness; the author is globally networked like few others.
